when i heard the learned astronomer
this has always been a favorite of mine. walt whitman, gemini, rocks!
When I heard the Learn'd Astronomer
When I heard the learn'd astronomer;
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me;
When I was shown the charts and the diagrams, to add, divide, and
measure them;
When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with much
applause in the lecture-room,
How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick;
Till rising and gliding out, I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars.

hmmm...... kinda like unschooling.....

a little about the kids
"monkey" boy and "rabbit" girl
that's what they are in the chinese zodiac.
she is almost 7 and he is 2 1/2. i will be calling her G, her first initial and he is L, his first initial.
they love to spend HOURS playing together, making up plays, building things, etc.
yesterday, when we were driving, L said "i'm so lucky". G thought he said "yucky", and she said "oh, no you aren't yucky!" he said "i'm so lucky to have a big sister. i love you." G started to "happy cry", as we call it, and said"i love you too!"
this pretty much sums up their relationship. i mean, when they aren't treating eachother otherwise, of course. ah, the sibling relationship AMAZES this only child. so enviable, so exasperating!
